“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming” ~ John Wooden.
To be the best you, that you have the potential to become, you can NOT compromise. You can’t compromise on being you. It’s simply lying to yourself. We have many reasons why we do this. We make excuses to avoid change, because change is hard.
But it remains our responsibility to manage ourselves well, making decisions, and keeping disciplines that enable us to reach our potential.
Go take a read of Today Matters by John C. Maxwell. I find myself nodding along to a lot of what he says, because it’s already in my heart. But it’s one of those books that demands something of you. It demands you to acknowledge you, and who you are, and just get on and do it. Today!
I don’t want to be the kind of person that knows who they are, but would rather do what I feel like, because it’s easier, or whatever the excuse may be. For example, I am a kind, loving person, I’m helpful and willing to serve. But boy, if I’m tired? Forget it. I become grumpy. And I put that emotion above the decision about who I’m going to be no matter what. And that’s not okay. It just isn’t.
Be you, already. And take each thought and emotion, and hold it up before you and really look at it. Is it going to make you compromise on who you are?
