I got creative again, and this time I made a cork board world map.
Its purpose is much like the journals to fill with dreams and ideas. It is the visual counterpart. I have a dream to have a shop selling items made by local artisans: all things beautiful, and excellently made using sustainable, recycled, “green” materials and production. The products must have a purpose of course: to make a person feel valued, whether to treat themselves, or as a gift to love another.
I imagine, that the store will have an separate room, perhaps upstairs. It will be decorated with old suitcases, rich brown leather sofas, handmade indian rugs, globes and worn leather bound books. I’d have all different lamps, and chandeliers, and create a warm environment with a fireplace, and soft lighting and bare brick walls, and walls covered in framed art work from everywhere.
And most important of all: the longest wall will host a map of the world. Tags will be attached with current world events, and local events, and there will be blank tags for people to write the things they want to see happen: eradication of poverty, cure for cancer, access to water, safe housing, etc. Whatever your dream is, you write it on the tag and pin it to the location of where you want to see that dream come to pass.
Until I have a shop of my own, I’ll just have a framed map! But I think everyone should have one. Tag the places you want to see! And the places you’ve been, endeavour to cover it in your lifetime. Have friends in every country. Live in different countries. Teach in a foreign country. Learn the individual value of each culture and what it brings to the planet as a whole. Each place is different, and the people make and shape the culture. It’s fascinating seeing how different people prioritise life: whether by family, or fame, or making millions, or living life to the full.
